Surat: Detectives from the Special Operations Group arrested a medical shop owner on Wednesday for allegedly selling restricted drugs (tablets and syrups) without a prescription. The accused Lalaram Chaudhary (23) sold over-the-counter antidepressants and painkillers without a doctor’s prescription.
The police were monitoring the Medical Shiv Shakti store for a few days and sent many fictitious buyers. After confirming that the accused was selling prescription drugs over the counter, police raided the store.
“As part of the fight against drugs, we monitor medical stores selling addictive drugs without a prescription. Many young boys become addicted to these drugs,” a police officer said.
“In addition to addiction, it was discovered during the investigation that criminals consume these drugs before committing serious offences,” the officer added.
A SOG team raided the store with a team of officers from the food and drugstore department. At the store, police seized 407 tablets and capsules and 17 bottles of syrup. The accused charged 10 rupees for each tablet.
“By consuming these drugs, a person feels high. First taken for pleasure, these tablets or syrup become addictive,” says a policeman.
