The implementation of electronic prescriptions in all its care services has been completed by the Riotinto de Huelva hospital in Andalusia.

As announced by the Andalusian government on Friday July 8, Riotinto Hospital in the Andalusian province of Huelva has integrated an electronic prescription facility in the emergency room and intensive care unit (ICU). This has completed the implementation of electronic drug prescriptions in all healthcare services.

Previously, since 2021, this service was already available in the various hospital departments (Traumatology, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Maternal and Childhood).

Electronic prescription allows healthcare professionals to prescribe treatment in a computerized and centralized manner. It helps to increase patient safety while optimizing resources and offering assisted prescribing to patients admitted to the hospital.

The incorporation of electronic prescription in the emergency and intensive care units of the Riotinto Hospital was achieved in record time thanks to the coordinated work of the various professionals involved. This included the ICT team, doctors, pharmacists, nurses, administrative staff and support from medical management and center management.

Huelva Hospital has become one of the first hospitals in Andalusia to carry out electronic prescriptions in all departments. The director of the hospital, Mari Paz Perez, highlighted “the enormous effort made by our pharmacy department, led by its chief, to implement the electronic prescription system, as well as the coordination work carried out by the management between all hospital departments”.
